If Love Is Painful, And Tortures Us So, Why Do We Love?

If love is painful, and tortures us so, why do we love?

I had this question on my MSN nickname and I had a few interesting answers.

Li Yenn: Because it is one of the three important things in life; Faith, Hope and Love. And the most important of all these is Love. Without Love, things would be rather fake wouldn’t it. [for instance, why do you sacrifice time for your loved ones if not for REAL love?] Without Jesus’ love for us, you think he would’ve died for us on that cross?

Gavin: We love ‘cause we have faith in it.

Wen Di: Because we don’t like to be alone.

Sze Keat: Because PAIN is PLEASURE. [enli:??] without pain,you'd never know what is pleasure. have you ever wondered why people love s&m?haha.. [enli:…>.<’’]

Ding Nen: hmm. Cause it’s worth it for us to have love. I mean it’s really worth it what...Love.I mean, imagine a life without love. That would be really depressing, and meaningless.

Harold: Because no matter how great the pain...the fulfillment u experience far outweighs it.

Michelle: ‘Cause in the end it’s all worth it.

Jia Liang: Love is a decision. Not a feeling. It’s a choice that if we make wisely will not fail us. We choose to do it because none of us are wise. [enli: so you’re trying to say love ALWAYS fails?]

Aiman: *sounding very sagely and philosophical* there are those moments EnLi, that makes Love worthwhile, but it’s true that when it hurts, it hurts more than it’s worth. [enli: wow.]

Nimalan: Albeit the pain and torture, it’s also the greatest feeling we can ever have. Love alone has the power to change anything and help us over come any obstacle. Love is second only to God.

Oliver: Because we need a witness to our life [enli: ?? go on..] You need someone there for you to make your life feel worthy, to know what you've been going through, to hold you, to be there for you, basically, u need a witness to your life story, if not why bother living?

Ju Ean: *laughs* because if we don’t love, it’ll be painful and torturous as well.

Sabrina: Because love also gives us that great feeling inside.

Logann: Because we need it to stay strong and have a reason to live. Also cause we need someone to be there especially for us.

Okays. That’s what I’ve got so far. This is what I think.

It’s in human nature to love. Despite the billion times we’ve been hurt and jaded, there is just something inexplicable about the way we are all attracted to Love. We love not because we want to, but because we HAVE to. Ever wondered why when you get hurt, you feel so horrible and angry, but when that special someone says a SINGLE sweet word, we’re taken up on it again?

Ever wondered why one minute you feel like giving up, and the next you’re planning your entire future with that person in mind? Well, the question I asked is a question that (I Bet) has been on everyone’s minds one time or another. I think that in the end, we might not find the right answer for it, but what the heck. We still love anyway.
